Visit the Collins Bus website and view more about this MFSAB!Effective February 20, 2001, Head Start Agencies purchasing vehicles with Federal funds must purchase either a School Bus or an Multi-function School Activity Bus (MFSAB). In addition, vehicles must be equipped with a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, seat belt cutter, back-up alarm and equipped for use of height and weight appropriate child restraints.

Effective January 20, 2004, all vehicles operated by Head Start agencies must be equipped for use of height and weight appropriate child restraints and have a bus monitor aboard the bus at all times.

Any vehicle purchased must be either a yellow and black shcool bus meeting all of the Federal and State school bus requirements, or an MFSAB, which can be an optional color, but must meet all of the FMVSS applicable to school buses related to crash survivability and mirrors, but does not have the school bus lamp warning systems and stop arm.

In Wisconsin, school buses require a school bus license, and MFSABs under 15 passengers require a regular driver's license. MFSABs over 15 passengers (including the driver) require a CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
